Lighter Side of Freedom of Info

 

Freedom of information legislation is still so new for most of the world (except Sweden) that we still aren't very mature thinkers about it. To think deeply about it, we need to have a sense of humour about it.

 

Sometimes government and public organizations disclose documents that are, well, funny.

Records acquired through freedom of information revealed that eight officers and two staff employed by the Strathclyde police department in Scotland listed their religion as "Jedi." (media source; actual request/response)

 


 

Queen shies away from underwear

In 1994 the Queen was touring Jamaica and was scheduled to visit an underwear factory. Documents disclosed under the freedom of information act revealed that the Queen's entourage had sent briefs to US diplomats to quickly change the tour to avoid potentially embarassing pictures of the queen admiring the craftmenship of undies.  (source)
